The method may be used to evaluate the effects of lubricating oils on the occurrence of destructive pre-ignition.
The method does not attempt to study pre-ignition itself, nor to assess its importance: it relates only to the contribution made by the lubricating oil to the formation of deposits that can lead to pre-ignition.
