A Volkswagen AG in-house test (PV 1431) was the basis for the original CEC diesel ring sticking test. The test utilized a 1.6 litre turbo charged IDI engine. That test, designated as CEC L-35-T-84 has been significantly modified to adopt the intercooled 59 kW engine and changes in fuel specification.
The test is used to assess automotive lubricants in a high speed, high temperature, IDI diesel engine. Performance is assessed with regard to piston cleanliness, piston ring sticking and changes in engine oil properties.
