This procedure describes a test method for the determination of the endurance life of synchromesh systems for manual gearboxes in automotive applications defined by wear and change in coefficient of friction. Questions of gear shift comfort are not subject of this test procedure.

OEM's need a common test procedure which allows the understanding of the oil manufacturer's test results. The introduces test procedure is suitable to be applied as "screening test" for this purpose.
